A little about Greg & Amy Wharton...

Greg is originally from the San Francisco Bay Area.  He and his wife Amy, a corporate event planner, met as teenagers working together at an Episcopal Church Camp on Lake Tahoe.  Their camp crush waited 25 years before they walked down the aisle at Grace Cathedral on Knob Hill in San Francisco (Amy would love to show you the pictures).  The couple moved to Austin in 2012 seeking a better quality of life.  Greg had family in Austin and Waco.  Amy’s parents lived in The Hills and were very active in the community.  Greg and Amy long admired all The Hills had to offer and attended many social and civic events in the Village while looking for their forever home.  They moved to Stillmeadow Drive in Spring of 2019. Amy has since joined the Village Parks and Recreation Commission and Greg serves on the POA's Security Committee.

A little bit more about Greg...

Greg earned a Bachelor of Science from Boston University, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude and received a Rhodes Scholarship nomination.  He was also the President of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and worked as a stringer for Time Warner and Whittle Communications.

After college, Greg began his law studies at the University of Virginia, and later transferred to Yale Law School.  Greg’s course of studies at Yale focused on national security and public policy issues.  He graduated with a Juris Doctor from Yale.

He is currently admitted to the bar in three states.

Greg’s legal career started as a corporate lawyer working for large law firms in Boston and Silicon Valley doing mergers and acquisitions, and general corporate work for venture backed technology companies, media companies and well-known consumer brands.

Just four years after law school, Greg left law firm practice to become the General Counsel of Internet Security Pioneer McAfee.com.  He led their IPO.  At age 29, he was perhaps the youngest lawyer ever to lead a global public company legal department.  Three years later Greg took his second company public, business software provider Plumtree.

For the past 15 years Greg has been an advisor, consultant, and in-house Chief Legal Officer for a broad variety of companies, in various industries from start-ups, to public companies at scale.  He has run legal departments, business operations teams, government relations, investor relations, counseled Boards of Directors and served as trusted confidant to entrepreneurs and investors.

Oh, and at the same time, he served as a front-line police officer for 21 years.  Greg is currently a Reserve Sergeant with the San Jose Police Department.  Click here to read more about Greg's police service.

Greg hopes to bring this breadth of experience, track record of private sector leadership, counsel, and creative problem solving to bear in your service as Mayor of The Hills.
